About Legacy

Legacy is an uniquely Australian charity which has been caring for the families of deceased servicemen and women since 1925. Legacy’s work has recently been expanded to care for the families of incapacitated veterans. Legacy has been active in Western Australia since 1928.

Across Australia Legacy cares for over 100,00 widows and 1900 children. In 2014 279 recent widows (including 4 widows under 35 years with young children) registered with Perth Legacy. In Western Australia, Legacy’s work includes support following bereavement, help with pension applications and legal issues (including writing free wills), education grants to children (Legacy wards), weekly social activities for widows in 9 locations across Perth, annual camps for widows and children, home and hospital visits, providing financial assistance with winter fuel bills and installation of home security.

Legacy’s care for the children of deceased service personnel extends past the age of 18 for children with a disability.

In Western Australia, Legacy works closely with WA Police Legacy which takes part in the 10 annual junior Legacy activities including the famous Busselton camp attended by Legacy children from across Australia.
