Our Story

In conjunction with the 2015 Bankwest Gallipoli Run series, Athletics WA has created the ‘Our Story’ social media initiative. Utilising Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the campaign aims to share the stories and names of people who have defended Australia while honouring the ANZAC spirit through their brave sacrifices.

‘“The Bankwest Gallipoli Run is in its twelfth year and during that time we have raised nearly $150,000 for the RSL and Legacy. The Our Story concept is a fantastic way for all participants to share their personal story in the 100th year commemoration of the troops leaving for World War One and we encourage you to join in. ’ said Athletics WA CEO Wayne Loxley

Everybody is welcomed to get involved by simply sharing a photo of the men and women who have helped shape and continue to defend our nation, with the the hashtag #OURSTORY. By sharing their name, rank and small blurb about their tour, Athletics WA hopes to recognise individuals who may have previously not been honoured for their contributions in safeguarding Australia.

The community’s involvement through social media will help raise awareness of the sacrifices and actions of our service men and women, as well as the spirit of the Bankwest Gallipoli Run.

Athletics WA also invites all families and runners to be a physical part of the commemoration of the courage of all our service men and women in the Gallipoli campaign. With the support of Bankwest and the WA RSL, this year’s run on Sunday 19th April will play a special role in the 100 year remembrance commemoration. Go to www.waathletics.org.au to register today!
